Slottsmöllan – EV charging with respect for cultural heritage
Protected environments and modern EV charging – can they coexist? Absolutely. The discreet, timeless design of Amp5 allows installations to blend seamlessly into their surroundings without compromising the site’s historical character.
A few kilometres north of central Halmstad lies Slottsmöllan – the heart of the city’s industrial history. Here, along the lush banks of the Nissan River, stand the historic brick industrial buildings managed by Slottsmöllans Fastighets AB.
Since the 1850s, the area has been shaped by the textile industry and is now classified as a site of national cultural interest. Any changes must therefore be made with great care – even when they serve the environment, such as installing EV charging infrastructure for modern needs.
Discreet design in a sensitive environment
For Slottsmöllan, the solution was AmpSociety’s Amp5 system. A total of 24 charging points were installed, and thanks to the system’s integrated cabling, the work required minimal ground excavation.
Amp5’s centralised architecture allows the visible hardware – the ChargePod units – to be placed discreetly. The smooth black aluminium design blends naturally with the dark brick façades.
“It turned out beautifully! We’re really pleased. It feels good to be able to offer accessible and sustainable charging to our tenants while keeping the impact on the cultural environment to an absolute minimum,” says Kajsa Rautenberg, CEO of Slottsmöllans Fastighets AB.

Technology that respects history
The heritage assessment of the area highlights several elements that make Slottsmöllan unique: the elaborate brick façades, the stone arch bridge from 1876, and the green park setting. In such an environment, it is essential that installations require neither heavy excavation nor visible cabling.
The modular design of Amp5 and its ConnectBar system made it possible to complete the installation without disturbing the existing ground conditions – a safe and sensitive solution for a historic site.
“Amp5 represents a technical milestone designed to overcome the weaknesses of earlier charging solutions. Thanks to its smart construction, we can install in heritage environments like Slottsmöllan without compromising their historical character,” says Niclas Wennerholm, CEO of AmpSociety.
A living industrial environment
Today, Slottsmöllan is home to nearly 100 tenants – from solo entrepreneurs to larger companies – and the charging points have quickly become a natural part of the site. The installation was completed smoothly and operates flawlessly.

Sustainability meets cultural heritage
Slottsmöllan’s own hydroelectric power plant, in operation since 1940, supplies electricity to the charging system. This creates a symbolic link between industrial history and the mobility of the future – the same Nissan River that once powered the textile factory now provides energy to electric vehicles.
“Naturally, we’re especially proud that it’s our own hydro plant providing renewable energy to the charging park,” says Kajsa Rautenberg, CEO of Slottsmöllans Fastighets AB.
