Amp5 cuts EV charging installation time in half
When EV charging infrastructure is built at scale, smarter system design becomes essential. Amp5 addresses this with a modular architecture and connector-based wiring that allows installers to complete installation in 1.5 hours per outlet—roughly half the time required for traditional charging boxes.
For many years, charging infrastructure has been planned, installed and configured as individual charging units. The result is often time-consuming installation work, difficult project estimates and installations that take longer than expected, particularly in larger sites.
“When charging infrastructure is now being deployed at scale, this approach becomes increasingly difficult to justify. Meeting future demand requires the same type of development that previously transformed the electrical installation industry – smart modular systems,” says Henrik Fries, Head of RnD at AmpSociety.
AmpSociety’s charging system Amp5 represents such a shift. Experience from completed projects shows that installation time can be reduced by up to 50 percent compared with traditional charger installations.

Verified installation times - not theoretical assumptions
AmpSociety was founded on insights from more than 60,000 deployed charging points in Sweden. The development of Amp5 was therefore based on real installation workflows rather than assumptions about how installations should ideally work.
“When we developed Amp5, the goal was to cut installation time by at least half compared to traditional charging box installations. Every design decision was based on what actually takes time on site,” says Henrik Fries.
Based on real installations, AmpSociety has defined so-called target times: estimated time per component once installers are familiar with the system. The learning curve is short. The first installation may take slightly longer, but after only a few projects installers reach stable and predictable installation times.

Modular system eliminates trenching work
Amp5 is built around an aluminium profile mounted on a wall or pole, with integrated internal cabling. This eliminates the need for separate cable trenches between charging points and significantly reduces both ground work and post-installation adjustments.
“For installers, the workflow resembles a cable trunking system – but adapted for EV charging infrastructure,” explains Henrik.
When Thorsman’s cable trunking system was introduced in the 1980s, it transformed electrical installations through standardization and modularity. Amp5 applies the same principle to EV charging infrastructure.
The difference compared with traditional charger installations can be compared to building a house from loose timber versus assembling prefabricated modules: fewer steps, less variation and significantly higher predictability.
Connector-based wiring saves time
All components in Amp5 are connected through pre-configured connectors similar to the quick-connect systems such as EnstoNet and Linect, which previously simplified lighting and electrical fixture installations.
“This affects not only the installation itself, but also commissioning,” says Henrik.
When wiring and configuration are standardized, the risk of installation errors decreases while the time required becomes more consistent between projects.
How fast EV charging infrastructure can be installed
The project at Regementsvägen 5 in Norrtälje illustrates the system’s potential in practice. There, 14 charging outlets on poles were installed and commissioned during a single working day—from 08:00 to 14:00.
The installation was carried out by a team of three technicians, corresponding to a total of 18 working hours.
This equals 1.5 hours per outlet, including both installation and commissioning. The time also included RCD testing for all 14 outlets and full functional verification through the ChargeNode app.
Experience from the project also indicates that some time estimates have proven conservative, particularly in projects with favorable site conditions and experienced installers.
Centralized configuration reduces project time
Significant time savings occur not only in the parking lot itself. With Amp5, the entire charging system is configured centrally, rather than each charging point being handled individually.
For installers, this means fewer steps, fewer potential error sources and faster commissioning. For project managers, it creates better conditions for cost estimation and project follow-up.

Less disruption for property owners
For property owners, shorter installation times mean significantly less disruption.
Where traditional charging projects may involve weeks of excavation and blocked parking spaces, Amp5 installations can often be completed in a fraction of the time.
This reduces both project costs and operational impact on residents and businesses, an increasingly important factor as charging infrastructure expands.
A system – not just a product
Amp5 was not developed as just another charging box, but as a complete installation system for EV charging infrastructure. Modularity, connector-based wiring and centralized commissioning work together to make installations faster, more predictable and scalable.
“Just as Plejd, Thorsman cable trunking and Linect have simplified the work of electrical installers, we aim to do the same for EV charging infrastructure. And property owners ultimately benefit from a better installation that can easily scale as charging demand grows," says Henrik Fries.
