Wihlborgs chose Amp5 for Slagthuset in Malmö
When the Öresund region's leading property company in commercial real estate installed new charging points at Malmö's well-known property Slagthuset, they chose Amp5 and ChargeNode. Daniel Karlsson, technical coordinator at Wihlborgs, talks about the company's requirements for electric vehicle charging.
In the heart of Nyhamnen in Malmö lies Slagthuset, a historic complex that since the 1990s has been home to culture, events, and business. The former slaughterhouse building from 1904 is managed by Wihlborgs and is today a vibrant meeting place with offices, theater, restaurant, and event venues. In the open parking garage beneath the event spaces, Wihlborgs installed a new Amp5 system in 2025.
"I like the aesthetics, it's a sleek beam with a discreet digital display that became a beautiful installation with LED lighting underneath. A regular charging box is never attractive, but here they've done something good," says Daniel Karlsson, technical coordinator at Wihlborgs.

Growing demands behind the choice of Amp5
Daniel Karlsson has been involved since 2022 coordinating the company's investments in electric vehicle charging. He sees how requirements are constantly increasing – from charging plug-in hybrids a few years ago to today's needs for fast charging and higher power. Wihlborgs has already ordered Amp5 for two new projects in Lund.
Open standards and freedom
A fundamental principle for Wihlborgs is to use open protocols and avoid lock-in. Amp5 communicates directly with central charging services via pure OCPP without proxy, providing operational flexibility and long-term control.
"We want as open a protocol as possible so that we can communicate freely with the charging points," explains Daniel Karlsson.
Reliability in focus
For a property owner with over 1,700 charging points distributed across three regions, uptime and operational reliability are critical.
"Uptime is extremely important. The fact that you can control the Amp5 system remotely is also a strength," notes Daniel Karlsson.
Amp5, which delivers at least 99% uptime through its centralized system architecture and self-healing software, is the result of five years of experience and analysis of over 20,000 support cases from previous generations of charging boxes.
Future-proof with V2G support
When the conversation turns to the future, Daniel particularly highlights the upcoming vehicle-to-grid technology (V2G):
"The next major development is V2G, and Amp5 already has support for this. I see that as a clear strength. Now vehicles and legislation need to catch up. I believe V2G will be a huge boost for electrical infrastructure in general," he says.
This future readiness was an important factor in choosing Amp5. With its modular architecture and centralized system design, Amp5 is ready to meet tomorrow's demands for smarter energy management.

Wihlborgs' sustainability journey
Wihlborgs' ambitions in electric vehicle charging are a natural part of the company's overall climate roadmap. The goal is to halve climate-impacting emissions throughout the entire value chain by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2045.
"We want to be an enabler in the transition to fossil-free mobility, and electric vehicle charging is an obvious and important part of our sustainability work. It's also an important service that our tenants request," says Daniel Karlsson, technical coordinator at Wihlborgs.
With Amp5's smart load balancing and centralized control, Wihlborgs is well equipped to optimize its existing infrastructure while continuing to build for the future.
